We have over 500 NAS devices deployed out in our environment. We use - Buffalo Linkstation LS-WTGL model and we use them mainly for imaging and software deployment.
Configuring, Deployment and replication was a hassle at first, but its all done now and I have the replication all automated. We did not join them to active directory and left them open because we didnt really care what was put on it because they were mirrored every night.
However, limitations to using these particular devices is we have no options for http: only unc. this limited us deploying packages through the gateway.
Worth mentioning... if the NAS can not create HTTP shares you will not be able to enable AutoFix.
(Unless that's changed in 9.x)
Thanks for the replies.
We are trialling a few now. : )

You can use a UNC share for patch location in 8 and 9. Alos if you have an existing server in that location you can setup IIS and use VUNC to the NAS share.
