    How to Upgrade LDSD 7.24 to 7.4

      Hi Guys, sorry for the simple question from me i'm still newbie in LANDesk Service Desk

       

      Can anyone tell me how to do upgrade from LDSD 7.24 to 7.4?

       

      Is it needed to upgrade to 7.3 first and then upgrade to 7.4?or just upgrade it to 7.4?and how long it takes to upgrade it?

       

      Where i can found step by step how to upgrade in addition of LDSD74Upgrade.pdf?

       

      Btw, i tried to install LDSD 7.4, i restored database with database that bundled with resources, and then install it, but when i access :

      http://localhost/Touchpaper.Framework.Web/config.aspx


      error "HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found.

      Internet Information Services (IIS)" occur
      Any idea for this problem?

          It is no problem to upgrade directly from 7.26 to 7.4

          If everything is prepared it takes about 2 hours to upgrade a existing database.

           

          But be aware that you need a lot of time to prepare your upgrade because you have to rebuild all your windows to make them available for webaccess.

          You also have to build a new web interface (now called webaccess) because the old one does not exist anymore.

           

          We created the windows and the webaccess before we did the upgrade and then imported them via desgin transfer.
          So we could reduce the downtime of service desk.

           

          Does the config.aspx exist?

          Is your web server and web application running?

          Are you able to access other files on your web server?

            Hi Tom, Thanks for your answer...if you don't mind, i want to ask some questions again

             

            1. "you have to rebuild all your windows" --> you said that, what windows exactly that you meant?

             

            2. what is the function of config.aspx?because i think to upgrade, we just need to backup database,tps.config file, CopySetting.xml, *.config, and report folder from the previous version and then replace the new one with the file that we backup earlier (from previous version) is it true?

            When I install LDSD 7.4, i restored database from database file that provided by LANDesk, and then install "Console" and "WebServer" first..it finish successfully, but when i access : http://localhost/Touchpaper.Framework.Web/config.aspx that error above appear.

              3. You should check your web server first!

               

              Does the config.aspx exist?

              Is your web server and web application running?

              Are you able to access other files on your web server?

               

              1. the windows in 'Window Manager' (they don´t look like the same as in 7.24)

               

              2.  the config.aspx starts the 'Meta Data Manager' to configure your old database for 7.4

                  If possible I would suggest proving in a "Test Environment" first before jumping straight into LIVE upgrade as things have changed in 7.4, especially if you used ServicePortal and now are switching to WebAccess.  We found that some of our process/window design had to change when we migrated to 7.4.

                   

                  We maintain separate DEV and TEST environments in our system to try new releases first.

                   

                  Maybe too late for now, but if you dont have at least a seperate TEST environment then would suggest you stage a TEST copy of live srver (put everything on one server) under VMWare Workstation and use this to test the upgrade first.   You'll have a much better understanding of (a) the upgrade process for 7.4,  (b) how long it'll take with your DB size and (c) and pitfalls as you will be able to do a functionaity test of your processes before having to do in LIVE under pressure.

                   

                  Best solution longer term is to build a seperate TEST environment (we use VM's to do this).
