anyone know how to reassign drives during image deployment?

    Specialist

I've got what I hope is a simple question to answer for LDMS 9.0 users regarding drive letter assignments:

      • I have a source computer image with two partitions C:\ and X:\
      • I am able to deploy this image with provisioning and the ImageW v2 imaging tool from withing WinPE
      • At some point during the process the 2nd partition gets reassigned to something else, such as D:\ or E:\

I need the image restored as designed with C:\ and X:\ partitions.  Is this possible?

Because WinPE uses X:\, this may cause a problem.  Can I change the drive letter used by the version of WinPE that ships with LDMS 9.0?

Based on some other reading I am under the impression that even if my source image 2nd partition were say, T:\, that during this whole process that 2nd partition would still end up being reassigned to D:\ or E:\.

-any suggestions on how to regain control over what drive letter assignments my partitions get during provisioning?

My suggestion is to not worry about assigning the driveletter in WinPE, like you said X: is assigned to WinPE and will most likely not let you assign your partition to X:\

wait til you get into sysprep, run a diskpart script as one of your RunSynchronous commands (assuming this is win7) and assign the drive letter there, the X: letter will be free.  Just create a diskpart script and do

          select disk 0

select volume n (you may need to boot up once into windows first to see what volume your X: drive is going to be, it could be 2 or 3 or 4)

          assign letter=X

            got it:  THANK YOU

            <contents of fixxtradrive.txt>

            SELECT DISK=0
            SELECT VOLUME=2
            ASSIGN LETTER=X
            EXIT

            c:\windows\System32\diskpart.exe < c:\administration\scripts\fixxtradrive.txt

I'm letting this slide in WinPE and having the script executed during Win7 mini setup

So far it seems to be working just fine, except for the fact that changing the drive letter screws up the folder sharing that I had setup on that drive
