Policy synchronization has failed in Software Deployment Portal

    Rookie

      Hi all,

We have a problem in our company with some users that are having problems using the Software Deployment Portal.

Some users are getting the message : Policy Synchronization has failed when accessing the SDP. The list remains blank afterwards.

There are no problems with the Launchpad or other policies.

I've added a screenshot to show what the message is.

We don't see this problem at all our users, but only a small group.

We have already tried to remove the LANDesk agent, remove the computer from the database, and reinstall the LANDesk agent, but no avail.

We are running LANDesk 9.0 SP2. I've tried to search the community for users who have the same problem, but it seems no-one else has reported this yet.

      Any ideas?

Since this is only a small group, it is probably a workstation issue rather than core. So I would first try to concentrate on these machines. the first place I start is evaluate the Policy.sync.log log file to see if there is anything that pops out.  If you are running any firewall/HIPs turn them off and see if the problem goes away, make sure all the LANDesk services are installed and running on the client.  I'm not sure if the client uninstall deletes the local DB, but if you uninstall make sure delete the local DB, which may be corrupt. This is old but still applies to 9.0 http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-3245 also check these logs for errors:

          C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\policy.*.log

            Hi,

Could you post your Policy.Sync.Log from your logs folder please ? Also, Check using ipconfig /all if all the clients have the same DSN search suffix.. this could be one of those FQDN things..

            Regards

            Ian

Thanks for the reactions so far. See above for an example from a policy.sync.log.

When I refresh the Software Deployment Portal manually, it fails. When I click details, it says LANDesk policy web service not responding.

Any suggestions? All services are started on the client.

Hmm, sounds like a name resolution issue. Go to the workstation with the problem:

See if you can browse to this site (replace coreserver with the name of your core.

                http://coreserver/landesk/managementsuite/softwaredistribution/apmservice/policyrequest.asmx

Can you ping the core from the effected workstation?

Do you have any firewall installed, if so disable it?

Do you have any proxy setting configured in IE?

Did you ever get an answer on this?

                    Hi Richard

We had a case in our environment of a package which altered the Program Files directory to a invalid value.

I suspect this package to have caused the problems.

Our workaround is to remove the agent(+ all registry keys, files / folders), fix the Programfiles value and reinstall the agent again.

Thanks everybody for thinking with us!
