PXE Representative: Successfully deployed script to device but no PXE Services installed

    irizarisan Apprentice

      LANDesk Experts,

I would like to ask assistance from the group regarding on the PXE Representative deployment. We just newly setup a LANDesk Core Server running in version 9 installed with Service Pack 2 Patch.

LANDesk Schedule task shows successful in deploying the PXE Representative Deployment on the computer however when I check on the PXE Respresentative COnfiguration. No computer/device is added. Confirm also per review that the LANDESK PXE Service is not installed on the computer.

Appreciate a lot your comments and assistance regarding on my inquiry.

      Thanks,

To add up, below services are not installed on the devices pushed with the PXE Representative Deployment scripts.

          LANDesk(R) PXE MTFTP Service:        PXEMTFTP.exe

          LANDesk(R) PXE Service:                   PXESvc.exe

I had review on the log and cnofirm that the Job complete done. No error or Failed visiable on the Log.

On which OS do you've tried to install PXE? I've heard/read about PXE problems on W2K8 servers (not only LANDesk/intel PXE...)

We tried to deploy the PXE Representative script on a Windows XP SP3 operating system.

Are you deploying like this or a other Way?

                  http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-2434

Did you checked with another System?

Any kind of Antivirus or other Security Software installed?

                  Best Regards

                  Troga

Did you use the method watticus described here: http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-3096 ?

In my experience, a lot of installation problems appear, if you try to install the osdrep.msi via HTTP from core.

The more secure way is to download the file locally and install it then.

                    Regards

                    Axel

I did try the PXE representative deployment Local copy script and it failed. i think some of the target files in the script no longer exist in the LANDesk Management Suite V9

                        Hello,

                        that's our changed file...

The line REMEXEC14 means, that we don't copy the boot.wim file from core, we replicate the newest one to every site and copy it during PXE server installation. This is faster! Additionally we use this path for updating the wim file on every PXE after changes, without reinstalling PXE.

Line REMEXEC17 copy the file from core to the future PXE server.

Line REMEXEC18 install the MSI from the local cache (no network issues, timeouts)

Lines REMEXEC19+20 changed the menu entries of the F8 menu, we don't need Linux and DOS entries... that's the cause for the comments ";" in the copy lines, it's not necessary to copy all, if you never use it...

                        Regards

                          hi Ahe,

Have you modify the PXE Deployment script or created another script that will copy the file instead of downloading it from http?? Would you mind sharing the script as well so that I can test it here on our new landeskcore server.

                          Thanks a lot mate,

To update, below is the solutions applied which allow my newly setup LANDesk Management Core Server to deploy the PXE Rep.

                              Background:

LANDeskcore server is running in Windows Server 2008 with two network cards. The cause was that the backup network was set as priority causing the CUSTJOB script to provide a random ip address. Those the reason why the PXE services are not loaded on the target device.
