    Automating windows from windows

I am trying to create a process in which if a user choses an option from a Reference List, and it matches certain criteria, that the be prompted with a 2nd window with more required information which I am using to drive the flow of the process for routing.  Has anyone been able to do this?

At first glance that sounds like quite standard functionality.  You would create a new action/window to collect the extra data, create some conditions in the process to look at the data entered into the main process window and then change your process flow with decisions/pre-conditions.

But that might not be what you are trying to do!  If it is, one issue will be that you might be collecting the reference list on a business object which isn't the main process one.  It's not particularly easy to then use this information in the main process to control flow.  If you stick to using data from the main, top level incident/process, you should be able to achieve what I think you are trying to do.  You can still create a windowless action to display different fields from the incident process with just the reference list on it to collect that bit of data and allow this action to be used several times, it just overwrites the reference list each time instead of adding a new entry to a collection.

          Hope that helps/makes sense.

            Hi

I've seen that done by Customers before yes.  It's a little bit like the "Complete Mandatory Data" check stage which is in the OOTB database and the Full Incident process but taking it a step further.  This is shown on page 19 of the LANDesk Service Desk Suite 7.5 Prebuilt Content manual.

So what I am trying to do is this:

              1) End User starts process

              2) if they select certain criteria from an attirbute on the main window then the second window (based off of Pre-Conditions or Decisions) opens asking them for that information

              3) once this has been completed, then the process moves into an open status and goes through what I have built.

              Does that make sense?

              Thanks,

              Will

Thank you.  I took a look at page 19, however, it looks like that is a manual action that doesn't just happen if that makes sense.  What I am looking to do is when the end user starts a process, they are asked maybe three things.  if on the second thing they choose "x" then the process opens the next window based off of that using pre-conditions or decisions.  does that make sense?

                Thanks,

                Will

                  Hi

Yes that makes sense.  However you would need to have the form saved or an action performed for the window to pop up.  If not, it wouldn't know if all the pre-conditions had been completed or not because you can keep adjusting the choices on the window up until the point that you submit them.  I can see the reason behind your thinking but I am not sure how this can be done in the product.

In the designs that I have seen, people will have mandatory fields on the window which enable people to classify what they are raising.  Then upon saving a new window can be popped up and / or the window can be routed down a certain route in the process.  I've also seen processes when people have a mini "triage" process which just collects the information needed and then based on the selection it will reinitialise to a completely new processes.

I hope you find a workable solution.

                  Best wishes

Basically, what I want to do is what the "Complete Search" does, but with my own criteria.
