Remote Site failing to load HII drivers post SP3

    Apprentice

We're seeing a little glitch with the HII after the SP3 upgrade. Here's the scenario

We have multiple offices across the country. Main core server is located in New York with a roll up core in San Francisco with each site we have having a desktop setup as a PXE Rep and server for our images. The issue lies within our Los Angeles office. They are using our script for Windows 7 and any machine they try to image, the process goes through fine but when the HII part comes up the drivers do not get downloaded.

We essentially use the same script just modified for each location. I've attached the log files for the same image from our La office and our SF office. Both logs indicate that the process completed successfully but looking at the time stamps for the HII steps, there is a 1/2 hr delay in the SF script but not the LA

      SF:

      "0021CCB44799","OK",0,0:00:08,2/1/2012 12:48:32 PM,2/1/2012 12:48:40 PM,"ldrun sdclient.exe /f /o /dest="x:\ldclient\HIIClient.exe" /p="http://192.155.38.101/landesk/files/HIIClient.exe" /disableclientqueue"
      "0021CCB44799","OK",-2147481750,0:27:34,2/1/2012 12:48:41 PM,2/1/2012 1:16:15 PM,"ldrun /qt HIIClient /uncpath"
      "0021CCB44799","OK",1073807364,0:00:00,2/1/2012 1:16:16 PM,2/1/2012 1:16:16 PM,"ldrun reboot, timeout=2"

      LA:

      "F0DEF12E348E","OK",0,0:00:05,2/1/2012 2:06:00 PM,2/1/2012 2:06:05 PM,"ldrun sdclient.exe /f /o /dest="x:\ldclient\HIIClient.exe" /p="http://192.155.38.101/landesk/files/HIIClient.exe" /disableclientqueue"
      "F0DEF12E348E","OK",-1,0:00:07,2/1/2012 2:06:06 PM,2/1/2012 2:06:13 PM,"ldrun /qt HIIClient /uncpath"
      "F0DEF12E348E","OK",1073807364,0:00:01,2/1/2012 2:06:14 PM,2/1/2012 2:06:15 PM,"ldrun reboot, timeout=2"

Also, is there a way to set HII to pull the drivers from the remote site instead of the core?

** We use the Classical Download option as this was implemented before I took over and haven't had the time to go through and test/change all of our scripts **

I have a hunch...can you check the WinPE ver on both sites...SP3 uses the new WinPE based on win7, SP2 WinPE based on Vista.

Easy to check, boot them in to winpe and run cmd line and type ver...

If they are different, it looks like the local PXE server to that site has not recieved the new WinPE (boot.wim) from the core, you can redeploy the PXE or rename the old one and copy it over...

That could explain the time stamp...and driver issue.

Also just for info, SP3 has changed the way it injects the drivers...there really is no infomation on the forums yet...

I've updated the drviers to Win7 from Vista and both versions are the same, 6.1.7601 and I verified the PXE files. The only thing that I can think of is could there be a latency issue that's causing this, since it is trying to pull the driver files from our server in NY? If this is the case, is there a way to specify which server i can pull the drivers from?

I'm able to ping the core server by IP and name from the WinPE console.

              Hi Tim

The other thing to check is the WinPE size, when sp3 was installed, it reset the size of the cache (WInPE), this has an effect if you use a lot of HII drivers or provisioning...

I had to increase the size again as it was reset back and when running PXE or Provisioning the PE image run out of space..

Boot to PE and run dir, check the size if its under 20mb then increase the size, there is a post on forum, it explains how to do everything...

Steve, that did not work either. I added the registry key with a value of 256, our PXE Rep has 1.5GB of RAM and free space went from 27,041,792 to 619,593,728. The command window for the HII is coming up for about 5 seconds then disappears with nothing populating to indicate that the drivers are being loaded.

                  Hi Tim

The logs show the the HII client is running but cannot find any drivers in the UNC share. Can you check on the core or MC that the unc share is pointing to the correct location on the core, ours is in ldmain\landesk\files\drivers..SP3 changed the way that HII is run and its location or drivers..

                  Hope this helps.
