Server OS - I would say yes since I believe XP restricts the amount of connections to 10. this can be increased/Hacked but I would not go there....
The packages are failing to download from our Preferred Server. There are a few attempts and then a HTTP (404) errror is thrown.
They then download the package from the core.
I can browse to both the package server and the core server successfully
Below are the error and sucessfull lines from the sdclient.log

you can browse with IE to the site, but did you download a file with your IE?
If you can't download a file (error 404) it could be helpful to check the MIME type settings of the IIS s. http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B248033&x=11&y=16
I have seen that error when the web site did not have anonymous access enabled. Could've been a fluke in my lab, but it's something to check...
