    LANDesk PXE Rep

      Good afternoon,

      I have recently installed LANDesk 9.0 SP3 on a Windows 2008 x64 R2 server.

As this is a POC, I wish to make the core a PXE rep. The PXE rep deployment goes "successfully" but it does not work. I do not see any PXE services in the services.msc or in the running processes. I've rebooted and redeployed with no luck.

      Below are the logs:

So you are trying to install the PXE rep on your core server?

It is not recommended to use the core or other devices that have multiple nics as PXE reps.

For a proof of concept (POC), you should be fine putting the PXE rep on the Core Server.

I have never seen the PXE Rep install and the services not be there.

                Your MSI is failing.

                "QALOLD02","OK",-1073741515,0:00:00,29/02/2012 4:44:38 PM,29/02/2012 4:44:38 PM,"<qt/>c:\ldclient\sdclient.exe<qt/> /p="" /msi /N /An /Ac /g="{F238CE99-6614-4072-9D20-1D2FA7ED951A}""

I'm not sure why the line says OK for an MSI failure code of  -1073741515. This is a weird code. It translates to Facility 0, error 309 which honestly doesn't really make sense but the issue is still obvious to the trained eye.

I can tell you right off that you need to install the Agent on your Core Server because the Core doesn't have an agent by default and the PXE Rep requires an agent. I can tell this because when there is no Agent, a default agent path of "c:\ldclient" is used.

                  Thank-you for your quick responses.

I think it was a number of things to create the perfect storm.

I installed the default agent and rebooted. I had (2) NIC's (one for admin and one for test), so I disabled the admin NIC and redeployed and rebooted.

After all of this, everything appears to work perfectly fine.

I'm sure I'll be back with more questions, but I appreciate the help.
