Since updating to 8.8 I am experiencing a numbe rof clients having a continually crashing inventory scanner, mostly servers but i thin kthere are one or two xp clients doing this too.

This error is produced (and actually taken from the core in this instance)

      EventType : BEX     P1 : LDISCN32.EXE     P2 : 8.80.0.249     P3 : 47500120

      P4 : LDISCN32.EXE     P5 : 8.80.0.249     P6 : 47500120     P7 : 00005cea

      P8 : c0000409     P9 : 00000000

      anyone else seeing this?

I'd suggest contacting your regional LANDesk support.

          Standard procedure is:

          - Get the latest Inventory Scanner/Service. That usually fixes 90% of such problems.

          - If the problems persist, determine if it's a hardware specific problem (or if it's something like WMI being broken) ... and go/debug from there.

Information on how regular this is ("ideally" that'd happen all the time on some workstations) and how wide-spread it is would help too.

happens every time the inventory scanner runs.

can't see it being hardware, at least not a given hardware type.

crash just now on a microsoft virtual server client

it did crash during the hardware scan phase however.

            ran it again

Ahh - you've not said anything about virtual server before.

That's a known issue (and requires usage of a new command-line switch). Contact your regional LANDesk support centre and request the patch INV-772088.0-2 - that'll fix it (via use of a new command-line option).

Cheers, will add that to the ticket now.

Got the patch, it fixed the problem but updating the local scheduler is proving a pain in the arse to sort out the scheduled scans and the like

                    How so?

A simple batch-file or custom script can do it.

How is it difficult / how are you doing it at the moment?

ADDENDUM (to save people requesting the patch when they have service packs)

Just to make sure - the patch is included in 8.8 SP1 and onwards. The patch "itself" doesn't fix the issue - it allows for a new command-line switch for the Inventory Scanner which does.

This switch is "/NOATA" - just add this to the command-lines of any inventory scanners running on Microsoft Virtual PC's.
