How do machines get policies after they are reimaged?

Trying to determine the best way to word this.   Here is the scenerio, I want to deploy a software change to our environment via a policy.   After a successful deploy, I may have machines that need to be re-imaged.   How do these machines know to grab the policy again after they are reimaged?

Depends on how the machines are targetted to the policy.  If they are targetted by a query and the query would still target the re-imaged machines, they'll get the policy.

If it's statically targeted (drag and drop the machines from the network view to the task) they wouldn't get the policy unless the deviceID stayed the same on the device.

Policy Required Installations and make sure when you reimage your machines you do not delete them out of LANDesk. Make sure you have the following configured in CTOS so it grabs the device ID from the database and uses it when you reimage if using provisioning.

You also want to make sure that under your LANDesk Configure Services Inventory Tab that you have Duplicate Devices setup to Restore Old Device ID's when Device Names, MAC Addresses or Both Device Names and MAC Addressses Match. I have it setup as Device Names Match as we usually have to swap out motherboards on occaison.

We do Policy Required installations already for software deployments, etc. However, we do not use LanDesk provisioning.   My problem is, when a machine is re-imaged how does a machine know it needs the Policy again if the machine is already in the the "successful" bucket.   We have several hundered machines and our help desk performs re-images.   I do not know every time a machine is re-imaged.   It seems there should be some automated process to where the machine would know it needs the policies again when it hits the Landesk core.

I am fairly sure if you have How to handle duplicate devices setup correctly to restore the old DeviceID it will handle it. This is the way we have our shop setup. We have over 300 software policies setup as required installations, when a machine reimages and then runs policy sync it checks in see's that it is assigned that policy and if it is not in the local client side db, due to reimage, it runs the policy again and installs the software.

Thank You.   That makes sense.   I am going to test it out now.
