Never mind, i realised the issue myself. The window was opening out of area
I have three monitors and sometimes that happens to me when I RDP into my workstation
Here's what was going on for me:
Generally I RDP into my core server (which has just one monitor) to run Mgmt Console. However I did install a remote Mgmt Console instance on a workstation that has two monitors. Here's what happened - I repeated the process just to verify it:
- On remote Mgmt Console, right click a scheduled task, click "Info". Drag the info window to the other monitor. Close the info window. Close LANDesk MC.
- Log out, then log onto the core server either via RDP or locally as the same user.
- On the core server, right click a scheduled task, click "Info".
The info window will not be visible on the core server's monitor. I now can't click on anything on the mgmt console. The top bar of the MC window is gray, as if it lost the focus. I can Alt-tab and get it to turn blue again, but still can't do anything with it, nor move the Info window, which is apparently open on a non-existent second monitor. I have to close MC using Task manager
So, here's the fix:
- Start the Mgmt Console again on the remote workstation. Right click an item and select "info". the Info window opens on the second monitor.
- Drag the info window back to the main monitor, then close it.
Now, when running MC on the core server, the info window appears where it is supposed to.
Does it seem weird that Management Console "remembers" where to open sub-windows when you access it on completely different systems?
FYI, here are the versions I'm running:
Core server host: Windows 2003 32-bit
Remote workstation: Windows 7 x64
LANDesk Management Suite 22.214.171.124
I'm considering moving my LANDesk core server to a 2008R2 x64 box soon, so maybe that will resolve the root issue.
It keeps track of windows sizes and positions. I just hit alt+space and move the windows back onto the screen. I RDPinto my workstation to run the console from home and I have three monitors on the remote. The window postions stick. So I only have one monitor at home so I use the alt+space trick. Might try some of the new WIndows 7 shortcut keys next time it happens.http://productivity.ben61a.com/windows/windows-7-shortcut-keys.php#10
Alt Space bar and move is what i did to reolve it too. it didn't work at first but after restarting the RDP session a few times it did eventually.
I have our core running on a 2008R2 x64 so i don't think upgrading will stop that issue from ever happening again. although i do reccomend the upgrade just for a better performance.
