we use a 'Resolve' status where a reopen is possible.
After 5 days on status resolve the ticket will be closed automatically (move to status 'Close') and a reopen is not possible anymore.

Yes or if you are on 7.5 or higher you could use a similar calculation in that article but as a calculated precondition before the reopen action within the Process Design. So then the reopen action would not longer be available after 5 days. It might be good to also build in another action available only to Administrators which allows them to reopen if needed.
