It sounds like you have days to keep inventory scans set to 30 days. If the device has not been scanned in 30 days it is removed.

Specifying the number of days to keep inventory scans

By default, the core server keeps inventory scans for devices until you delete them. You can have the core delete inventory scans for devices if the device hasn't submitted a scan for the number of days you specify. Doing this can remove devices that are no longer on your network.

To specify the number of file revisions to keep in the core database
          1. Click Configure > Services > Inventory.
          2. Specify the number of days you want to keep inventory scans.
          3. Click OK.

While you can turn the automatic deletion off, you should ask yourself if you really want to. If a machine is off for over a month, where is it? Is it in storage, is it mobile?

If LANDesk is the only record you have of these devices, then mayeb you don't want to delete the records, but in Configure - Services - Inventory - Advanced Settings, you can tell landesk to keep a log of the deleted devices so that you can maintain a list of the devices that have been removed. If they are removed then you will not be getting failed distributions for machines that are never going to be online. Also, when the machine does come back online it will add itself back into the database.

There is no right or wrong answer about whether you should delete the machines or not, it is just a question of what best suits your environment and usage of LANDesk.

              Hi,

is it possible to change the value "Days to keep inventory scans" at 400  in menu configure/Inventory .

In fact, the service desk wish to keep the trace of computer for more than 1 year.

              Thanks

If you set it to 0 then it will be disabled. It sounds like you might want that.

I don't recommend the data being kept that long. Yes the service desk want the data, but it damages the accuracy of the LANDesk database. You should consider either importing information into your service desk where they can keep it after it has been deleted from LANDesk, or purchasing LANDesk Data Analytics which allows for the archiving of data (as well of a lot of other cool features).

The service desk has a valid reason to ask for this, BUT it isn't really a valid thing to use LDMS for.

OK, well the max I can set it to is 365. The effect is that machines that do not send an inventory scan will be kept for 365 days before they are automatically deleted. I don't know how often machines are replaced in your business so can't say how big an impact this will be. Old machines can accidentally be targeted and will appear to be failing distributions, their old patch data will skew reports, and their hardware and software inventory will affect the accuracy of reports. A simple example, how many licenses of MS Office do I need? Well, if you have machines that haven't reported for nearly a year, you are going to have to be very careful or you will be buying a lot more licenses than you really need.
