Fresh 9.5 install - no users can authenticate

    Rookie

      Hello,

Im currently trying out LANDesk management 9.5 for use in our university to manage end clients and track installed software. I did a fresh install of 9.5 today, and I am unable to login with any account. I installed LANdesk using my domain account, but that same domain account wont let me log into the console after its installed, giving a "authettication failed. Verify the credentials are correct and that the account is not locked or disable".

I checked every article I could find here, and even updated the com+ components with a domain login (mine) that has AD access, that did not help. I also created a local admin account, and added it to the "LANdesk Administrators" group, but even that cant login to the console (same error).

I checked the console.exe.log file and it added these lines:

      11/16/2012 17:33:49 INFO  6320:Main Thread RollingLog : Starting authentication

      11/16/2012 17:33:49 INFO  6320:Main Thread RollingLog : Resolving rights for CLAWREN1

11/16/2012 17:33:49 INFO  6320:Main Thread RollingLog : AuthenticationException Exception: Failed to authenticate

If anyone knows what Im missing I would be grateful. I really want to try this software out. I currenlty running it on a virtualized windows 2008 server, with a local SQL 2008 database. Ive completely un-installed and re-installed the software 2 times now, and still get the error.

Are you authenticating with domain\username or just username. Also make sure the user you are logging in with is in the local LANDesk Management user Group

I installed it using my domain account, so Im trying to log in with the same domain account using domain\username on the login screen. I have verified my domain account is a member of the "LANDesk Administrators" group, and the "LANDesk Managment Suite" group, but neither has helped. I also created a local account admin, added it to the ""LANDesk Administrators" group" and it does not work either, same error.

Have you set the identity of the COM+ objects to a domain account? This is the console on the core, correct?

                Yes I have :

                com+.jpg

Correct. this is the console on the core. The one server I have installed LANDesk on.

So I would check the install logs for errors. During the beta I noticed that when certain components failed during install it would not be reported. If clean there has to be an issue with .net, and I would open a case.

Which log file(s) should I check?

But I have no idea what that means. My username is in the apropriate group.

                        Hi,

You seems to have some issue with taht user named OUHSC\clawren1.

You can try to create a new service account to bypass this error.

Note that COM+ for LAndesk and LAndesk1 require to be:

                        - added directly into the local administrators group of the core server (not nested group like doamin admin)

                        - member of the local group of the core server Landesk Management suite

                        - A domain user with access to all OU

This is the minimum requirement but you set higher priviledge if wanted like doamin admin.

If note you may like to raise a case with LDMS support via web or phone. Note that a copy of you databse will be needed.

                        Regards,

                        X
