    Problem with image deploy and just how do you exclude manufacturer 'system' partitions?

      We've just started setting up our OSD and are trying to set up our first image to which we've run into a couple of issues, so if anyone could give us a hand that would be great;

      • We're using LD 8.8 and have been following the "Best Known Method" guide titled "OS Deployment of Windows XP using WinPE"

      • We can capture the image successfully, however this includes the manufacturers 'hidden' system partition. Ideally we would like to skip that partition and simply restore the second partition only but we thought we would start with the basics first. This is a Lenovo R61 laptop.

      • When we go to deploy the captured image (which is both partitions) to an identical machine the imaging process seems to progress normally with a moving progress bar and it appears to be doing both partitions as expected, but once this is completed it simply goes back to the WinPE desktop and sits there for an idefinite time (we have left it overnight).

      • A review of the OSD log shows the following (I've changed the username and core server name in the log);

      "L7367","OK",0,0:00:01,4/28/2008 1:27:01 PM,4/28/2008 1:27:02 PM,"WINPE, TIMEOUT=1800"

      "L7367","OK",230227968,0:00:00,4/28/2008 1:27:12 PM,4/28/2008 1:27:12 PM,"drvmap.exe domain\username 2095A2B2CB54A9CB8A8DF2B049CC6390D5C4C20651B H: <qt/>

      "L7367","OK",230031360,0:54:45,4/28/2008 1:27:16 PM,4/28/2008 2:22:01 PM,"RunBatch -1 h:\osd\imaging restall.bat 0 i:\L7367, STATUS FACILITY=3510, SYNC"

      "L7367","ERR_Fail",-1918091007,0:00:03,4/28/2008 2:22:01 PM,4/28/2008 2:22:04 PM,"sdclient /f /o /dest="X:\LDClient\diskinfo.exe" /p="", STATUS"  "Job Complete","0 Done","1 Failed","0 Off","0 Unknown"

      • If I'm reading the log right it appears to be failing on the "diskinfo.exe" command which according to the docs should be trying to 'fill out' the partition. Considering this is an identical machine and HD I would have thought this should have worked but then again I'm still trying to figure out what exactly went wrong. It could also be that the file failed to copy?

      So our two questions are:

      • Looking at what we've supplied any suggestions where we should look to see what is going wrong with our current testing?

      • Does anyone have any suggestions with regards to "manufacturers restore paritions" - should we get rid of them or what would be the best method to skip it for OSD. But consider the fact that we have to dispose of that asset after it's useful life by usually selling it off and we would like to restore it to 'factory state' before disposing of it. (And yes I know the benefits of 'fleet leasing' and the like but please let's not go there).
