LDMS 9.5 - HII Driver Repository Manager rights error

    ecoidan Specialist

      LDMS 9.5

When I tried to rebuild or create a new Driver Library I continue to get an error that states I dont have enough rights. I found that the the Repostiry Manager is using the Read-Only Credentials that is configured in the Preferred Server and not the Read-Write. As soon as I give the ReadOnly user account Change/Full rights to the share then it will regenerate the repository database. I dont recall having this issue with 9.0.

      Anyone else come accross this?

I know this thread is a couple of months old with no replies, but I have also come across this.  I had to give our preffered server domain user write permissions to the drivers directory.  However, after the repository manager builds the list of drivers, it never displays the interface to add new drivers.  Did you have that problem also?  And did you ever find a solution to giving the read only credentials change permissions to the drivers directory?  Or is that the fix?

Problem still exists with the rights. I also didnt have the issue with it never displaying the interface.

Ok, thanks for the reply.  I wonder if I can add the drivers to drivers directly to the directory without the interface.  I might try it with a few and see what happens.  I need to basically delete most drivers in the directory anyway to update them and also rearrange the folder structure.

I'm having the same issue, but adding Full Control to my user doesn't correct it. Which level did you make the change to the permissions?

Does this have anything to do with the location of the actual folder location? in 9 sp3 there was an actual folder in the ldmain share. in 9.5 there is a shortcut to the folder.

I have been able to add the drivers I need, but when I need to save the drive db file is when I get the access denied.

Our driver store is on our Core but the driver store has its own network share and is on a drive that is separate from the actual LANDesk management console.  We have matched the permission for our driver store to the permissions that are replicated down to the default store of ...\landesk\files\drivers.  The drivers.db3 that is created to list the drivers that are available for our driver store is located in the root of our driver store. So, the same permission that are applied to the driver store are applied to the drivers.db3 file in our case and it is working.

The way the hii tool works is it will use the unc path provided to get credentials from the preferred server configuration that will allow access to the unc path where it will create the db3 file. The http path is then used to make sure that the db3 file can be downloaded from that location. If the creation fails, or the http download fails, the save will fail. Make sure the unc patch and http path end up to the same location. If you put some file in that unc directory, can you download it via the http path? I have seen problems where the unc patch points to server1, and http goes to server2, so when it tried to validate the db3 file, it fails. The paths must be the same. Fiel replication can then copy the db3 as needed. A virtual directory can be created in IIS that points to some other unc share location if needed.

Another thing to note, the http path must have anonymous access enabled.

                        wade.fields,

You don't have to give full control, and you don't give to your username.  I think all is needed is change/delete/modify rights to the drivers folder only..  I chose full control to check everything and then unchecked full control, change permissions and take ownership.  You have to give those rights to the username you specified in the perferred server configuration for that specific server.  I had to give the rights to the read user in the preferred server configuration as it seemed to not use the write user.  The user was not granted such permissions after the upgraded to 9.5, and I don't know if it had the permissions in 9.0 SP3.  I overtook the LD admin role right before I had to upgrade our core to 9.5.  It's been a hell of a learning experience for sure.  That's what I had to do to get it half working.  I still can't get the actual GUI to pop up to load new drivers after LDMS updates the driver list when you click the 'Manage driver library....' button in the OSD tab.  Seems I can just move the driver files directly into the drivers directory using Windows explorer though the drivers list updates correctly.  We have never been able to get HII working initially though so I can't say if it works for sure.  I just know the drivers list (the .db3) udpates correctly when I manually move driver files into the drivers directory.

I initially changed our ReadOnly acct which we use for the preferred server to have Modify rights, to see if that would correct the issue. When that didn't work, I tried FullControl.  I even added our service account which has domain admin rights with FullControl and still get an access denied to the UNC path when trying to Save through the HII Repository Manager GUI.

I tested both the read-only credentials and write credentials account on the preferred server in Content Replication (which are two different accounts) and both tested fine. HTTP gave me an error on the read access because Anonymous access was enabled.

I can access the share directly through Explorer and also through Finder using SMB. I can also download the db3 file from the browser.

Below is th dialog box and the path is \\FQDN\ldmain\landesk\files\drivers

This is the first time since we updated to 9.5 I've had to add drivers to our HII db, but I never had any issues before w/ 9.0.

Just to verify, when you test the credentials for the prefered server and perfered server source you setup for the driver share they are completeing successfully?

My share permissions were correct originally.  It was my NTFS permissions I had to correct.  But, make sure both NTFS and Share permissions are correct.  I've never been able to actually use the GUI.  I can only add the drivers manually by dragging and dropping and then reopen the 'Manage driver library...' button and it updates the db3 file again with the new drivers (the gui just never appears after this).  Even then, I haven't been able to complete configuration for HII so mine doens't work anyway, yet.  I wish I had a working HII setup so I could help you better.  I can keep a hell of a driver db so far though...

When I test, my HTTP will also result in an error and say it's because Anonymous access is enabled.

The preferred server I have setup in Content Replication for HII tests successful for read only over UNC, with the caveat on HTTP that it cannot validate HTTP because anonymous access is allowed. And the Write Credentials succeed as ell.

cfletche, I am confused, which GUI are you refering to that you havent been able to use?

From my understanding the drivers folder is the HII Repository Directory and selecting the "Manage driver library...." button rebuilds the drivers.db3 file with any changes made to the repository directory.

My issue is not getting the drivers into the directory, I always extract the drivers and associated files into a model specific subfolder, then select the "Manage driver library..." and watch the progress bar and confirm that the number of drivers change. My issue is that I can't rebuild the drivers.db3 file.
