1. Re: ldiscn32 running on core
Frank Wils Jan 16, 2013 2:21 PM (in response to squreshi)It runs when the Inventory Server Service is started. It is used to generate an inventory record of your Core Server, which in turn is used when re-activating your server with LANDesk. It runs from ldlogon, which is also used when you deploy agents, so you can't easily disable it, which anyway isn't recommended...
Why would you want to disable it in the first place?

2. Re: ldiscn32 running on core
squreshi Jan 16, 2013 2:30 PM (in response to Frank Wils)The core has 2 more enterprise applications running on it and ldiscn32 is scanning the all exe's etc. The fact that this is the same ldiscn32 that is deployed out to the workstations takes disabling/removing out of the picture.
Is there a way to add exceptions to it so that it doesnt scan a folder or folders?

3. Re: ldiscn32 running on core
zman Jan 16, 2013 2:38 PM (in response to squreshi)It also runs I believe when the core does nightly maint. As Frank said it is imperative that it runs, however, you can modify some things. If you also have a LANDesk agent installed on the core you can tell the agent when the inventory scan should run. You can also modify your ldappl file to exclude the folders where the enterprise apps reside. I would not run LANDesk with other application on the core.

4. Re: ldiscn32 running on core
squreshi Jan 16, 2013 2:46 PM (in response to zman)I dont have an agent installed on the server. The ldappl modification only works when there is an agent installed, correct?

5. Re: ldiscn32 running on core
zman Jan 16, 2013 2:52 PM (in response to squreshi)It will work on the core since the scanner runs from C:\Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\ldlogon so it should the ldappl in the ldlogon folder.

6. Re: ldiscn32 running on core
Frank Wils Jan 16, 2013 3:03 PM (in response to zman)Ah yes, it also runs during the maintenance (in the console on your Core, go to Configure - Services - Inventory, you see the maintenance times there). This will run even if you install an agent. Be aware also that changing the ldappl in ldlogon impacts ALL devices, so carefully configure your exceptions.
Zman said almost as a sideremark, but i will emphasize: Running LANDesk on a server with other enterprise apps can cause severe problems in either app and is also unsupported by LANDesk! So i would reconsider that too...

7. Re: ldiscn32 running on core
squreshi Jan 17, 2013 8:46 AM (in response to Frank Wils)Thx for all the info boys.
I have excluded the directory in question in the Exclude section(ldappl3.template) using the drive letter since its not on C:\.

8. Re: ldiscn32 running on core
BanjoBoy May 15, 2013 11:15 AM (in response to squreshi)ldiscn32 MUST run on the core. Do not disable it. Also, any modifications to the ldappl3.template will affect ALL clients... not just the core server.
I get the impression that you just don't want the software scan to happen. That's easy!
Set svccfg/inventory/advanced settings/Do Core Server Software Scan to 0. Click Set, then restart the inventory service.
Have fun

9. Re: ldiscn32 running on core
rabinod May 16, 2013 6:48 AM (in response to BanjoBoy)What are the effects of setting "Do Core Server Software Scan to 0"?
I do not need the core software inventory, if that's all it is. I do not want other functions to stop working if I set it to 0.

10. Re: ldiscn32 running on core
BanjoBoy May 16, 2013 7:47 AM (in response to squreshi)It just disables the software scan... which will include software and products. That's it.

11. Re: ldiscn32 running on core
rabinod May 16, 2013 7:59 AM (in response to BanjoBoy)in the context of the server only, meaning there will be no software detected on the server. if I had Office installed on the server, it will not be detected because the scan has been disabled for the server only, not the clients that have the agent installed. Is that correct?

12. Re: ldiscn32 running on core
BanjoBoy May 16, 2013 8:10 AM (in response to squreshi)That is correct.
