Not sure if this helps but I had this problem in 9.0 SP3. (I upgraded to 9.5 so I never used 9.0 SP4).
I kept having to keep going back into the intel setup, removing the credentials, then putting them back in. I suggest you do this on the core because I think what happened to me was I went into the setup from a remote console to look at the setting and it would hang on closing the window and I think this messed up something.
Thanks for your insight. Unfortunately, I entered the credentials on the core already without any effect.

Meantime I got some new machines. So far machines with vPro 8.x can be used with LANDesk without great effort:
Set the same password on the core and the client, "Activate Network Settings" in MBex-Menu und (re-) Deploy Landesk-Client. You're done.
Unfortunately, with my original client, running vPro 5.x, the error message persists.
