a) I tried performing inventory task on my windows 2003 client and windows xp professional client and it fails with the following error message
unable to locate the master software list at HTTP://coreserver/ldlogon/ldappl3.ini, your local copy may be corrupt.
Further more on my troubleshooting i understood that
LDISCN32.EXE is the process that run on the client to generate an inventory which will be sent to the core server. I
saw that ldappl3.ini was not found on the client end ( is this necessary to be in client / device end )? but i found this file on the server share ( which is core server)
also i tried to access the files in the following way but still failed. http://<coreserver>/ldlogon/ldappl3.ldz , i tried to download but it failed , so i have to further troubleshoot web sevices on the core server , but what are those settings. i have installed IIS 6.0 with ASP 2.5 version.
My suggestion is to take this one problem at a time.
You should be able to browse http://[coreservername]/ldlogon from your client's browser. Your client will access this web share to download the ldappl3 files which contain instructions that the inventory scanner uses to decide which software to include in the inventory scan. If you cannot browse this share, you should troubleshoot this issue. Common configuration problems that could cause you problems with this would be windows permissions, name resolution issues, and blocked ports.
Once you have resolved this, make sure you can run an inventory scan initiated from the client. If it succeeds, make sure that the inventory record is updated on the core server for that client. (Look in the invontory information for that client and ensure that the "last hardware scan" date has updated.)
If this works properly, but you still experience the issue you originally reported, then you should begin to look at the web services on the core server. As a test, try to browse http://localhost/wsvulnerabilitycore/vulcore.asmx locally on the core server to make sure that the web services are responding. If that fails, attach a screenshot. If it works, then respond to the thread and we will decide where to go from there.
thanks for the response, i have performed the below tasks and here are the results.
a) i am able to access http://localhost/wsvulnerabilitycore/vulcore.asmx on the core server
b) i have backed up the ldappl3.template and deleted the ldappl3.base from the core server , then loged into the console and performed " make available to clients " so that all the ldappl3 * files get regenerated. == but still no luck .
ldiscn32.exe /L /I=http://coreserver/ldlogon/ldappl3.ldz/f /v/sync , even this gives the same error message
Unable to locate the master software list at Http://coreserver/ldlogon/ldappl3.ini. your local copy may not be correct
a) IIS server : can i uninstall and reinstall IIS after LANDESK software has been installed on Core SERver ?
b) corruption of ldappl3 * files
Thanks for the assistance . I resolved both the issues by the following methods
a) reinstalling entire Core server , configuring appropriate Group policies , installing console
b) configuring clients , resolved the issue
there are documents which are very confusing , some docs mislead about Group policies which was creating problem.
Can you let me know which docs you found confusing so I can make sure they get reviewed?
