I'm having some issues with the WMI item collection. I'm wondering if I should go down the same route of modifying the LDAPPl template.
Making available to clients should update the LdAppl3.ini and clients should see the updated file locally after one or two full scans. Final step is to allow the new entries to be added to the database. On the core, select Configure, Inventory tab, Unknown items button, and you should see the new database entries. Highlight and select Allow. Click on OK and allow the Inventory service to restart. You should now start seeing your custom WMI items show in inventory.
