It works when the inventory scanner runs as the logged on user, but not if run as the local system account in my testing.
Perhaps try with a software distribution package batch file set to run as the current user. Not perfect, but at least would give you an idea for those currently logged on.

Hi there Michael,
the behaviour of the inventory scanner is the one we expect.
The screen resolution in Windows is technically user profile specific, since windows XP with hardware profiles, and in the following versions, even though this feature has been hidden, the operating system registry is still set up to associate a different screen resolution for every user.
With Windows Vista, 7 and 8, this can be done manually changing the registry or with some third party utility such as Carroll ( http://thesz.diecru.eu/content/carroll.php ).
So what happens is that when a user manually runs the scanner it returns the value for the user that ran the job, while when the inventory is run by the local system account (scheduled inventory or scan started from the Management Console) the scanner queries the value for the default user profile.
Hope this helps
