It is possible create a Data Connection on an SQL view then create a query in Query and Report Designer to see the results.
There is an example in this ShareIT document:
It would be pretty cool if you could do a query as SQL code. Would add a huge amount of flexibility to queries that just isn't there now. Not that I want to get rid of the current query capabilities but having the power of SQL would be really cool.
