    Cloud Appliance Downloading Issues

    Rookie

      Hello All,

I have my Cloud/Gateway Appliance configured and seems to be working properly. I am just having one issue. When downloading updates it seems to take forever and a day to download updates. For example I have been watching a computer do a security scan and attempt to download a 28 MB firefox update for over an hour now. Is this normal?

      Thanks,

      Bryan

The download finally is successful, but takes a really long time

I have been seeing the same thing with my CSA.  I have a ticket in with support on it and they are having me get our networking guys look into the traffic.  I have been seeing 5 MB installers take ~20 minutes to download through the CSA.

What is odd is that the remote control through the CSA is pretty responsive.

I'll post back what I find from either end.

Try downloading a large patch file via your browser and see if it's any faster.

              e.g. http://127.0.0.1:9592/ldlogon/patch/ [some large file]

Make sure brokerconfig.exe is set to use CSA only or that you are not on your internal network to make sure traffic is routed through the CSA.

When I try hitting that page from a client that is outside of the network and is in gateway mode, I get "this page cannot be displayed".  Internally, this page resolves and I can see files to download.  I try to hit the web share on the core that houses software installs and that gives the same error.  Is there another way to test this?

That should work. does this machine have a valid \LANDesk\Shared Files\cbaroot\broker\broker.crt? When you are off network, what do you get if you run \ldclient\brokerconfig.exe and select test? Do you get "link to core successful"?

You can also check \landesk\shared files\proxyhost.log  for some clues as to why is isn't working. Do inventory and vulscans work on this machine when it is disconnected?

OK, there was something wrong with the machine that I was testing on.  I pulled out a freshly imaged laptop and was able to download a 548 MB patch through the CSA in about 10 minutes averaging about 850 KB/second.

On this same laptop, I installed 7-Zip through the CSA.  It took 3 minutes to download through the Desktop Manager the same amount of data that it took 1 second to download from the patch web share.

Is it possible that this is a misconfiguration in the share permissions of the software repository on the core?

My guess is that you you are getting limited by the bandwidth settings in your delivery method and the download is yielding to other traffic. Check to see what your delivery method is using as far as bandwidth allocation. If that doesn't seem to be it, there is a cool little utility called pedownloader.exe that will let you test various download scenarios using the LANDesk downloader. If you have LANDesk 9.6, the file is in ldlogon. I don't remember if it was included in 9.5 or not.
