    Unable to open Remote Console

    Rookie

After I log into the remote console on a particular machine I get a message that reads, "Connection Failed, Object reference not set to an instance of an object."  Below is the section of console.exe.log that appears to be generating the error.  There have been no software or patch installs on this machine recently.  I couldn't find any information on this particular error.  If anyone has any suggestions I'm open to them.  Let me know if I should post more of this log or other logs.  Thank you.

couple of thoughts based on this line:

09/09/2014 09:54:47 INFO  3284:Main Thread RollingLog : EmbeddedResourceExtractor.Extract: Got an exception extracting embedded resource, exception was 'Access to the path 'C:\Program Files\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\resources\softwaredistribution\Task.Distribution.StreamedDocs.xml' is denied.'

have you checked your permissions on this folder?  does the account you are logging in with have LDMS access to (at least - view) Software Distribution?  could potentially also be an error there that might be causing it not to load properly (missing open/close tag)?

That's the original error I was focussing on but when I compared the logs from other machines it looks like they all get that error and the others are able to connect and pull up the console.  I know it is a few years old but when I was first went looking for answers I found this document that makes it seem like it's a common but inconsequential error.  How To: Interpret the Console.exe.log

The account that I'm logging in with has full rights to software distribution.

The last timestamped line actually has the error that's in the pop-up error that occurs graphically when trying to log on so that makes me think the important error is there.

Also possibly important, the last three lines won't paste correctly so I'll type them out. The characters that are missing actually only show up in the log when I open it with notepad++.  They show up as white letters highlighted in black.  They also show in discrete blocks that are as follows: SUB, DC4, EM, ESC, DC3.  So even though they are both highlighed in black there is a white vertical line indicating a separation between the first and second SUB's in the first line, etc.

               at LANDesk.ManagementSuite.WinConsole.FormMain.  SUBSUB(String , Boolean DC4EM)

               at LANDesk.ManagementSuite.WinConsole.FormMain.  ESCSUB(Boolean DC4EM)

               at LANDesk.ManagementSuite.WinConsole.FormMain.  DC3EM(Boolean DC4EM)

Edit* - Corrected spacing in final three lines.

Just so I'm clear - Is this the console client application or web-based remote console?

2 lines down from that line I identified, there is also another error that is catching my eye:

              09/09/2014 09:54:47 INFO  3284:Main Thread RollingLog : WinCOnsoleListView.UpdateItem: columns.Count == 0 and shouldn't be.

which could be the cause or the null value reference you are getting at the end of the log.

If this is in the web remote console & if you are able to view this on other pc's without a problem, it could be something to do with the temporary internet files, IE settings, or some corrupt registry value on that particular pc.

I'm assuming you have gone through the normal Delete Temp files, reset IE settings, etc on that device already...  What OS / IE version are you using on that pc?

If it is the console standalone application, you might need to reset your view.  How To: Reset a Corrupt User Layout

It is the Console client.  The line you referenced two lines down is also in the logs of other computers that are unaffected.

The problem is deffinitely computer based as no user can use the console on that machine and the normal user of the console can access the console from other machines.

Thanks for the info on resetting the layout.  I went through it on the core, logged on as the user, just in case.  It had no effect.
