Package deployment - Distribution and Patch Settings

    technobabble Apprentice

We are on LANDesk Management Suite 9.6 SP2. We have default settings for machines. The questions are these:

When deploying a package and selecting a different Distribution and patch setting,

      • Do all settings get overwritten during the packages deployment?
      • How long does the Distribution and patch setting that was used to in the package deployment task stay in affect?
      • When does the Distribution and patch setting for agent get set back to its default?

          Hi technobabbe,

That's a good set of questions:

          • Do all settings get overwritten during the packages deployment?
            • Only the Distribution and Patch Settings, but it does not actually overwrite, it is just an instruction from the Core to the machine to use different settings
          • How long does the Distribution and patch setting that was used to in the package deployment task stay in affect?
            • The new settings are only used for this Package distribution
          • When does the Distribution and patch setting for agent get set back to its default?
            • After the Package has been deployed, the Agent uses his default settings again

Something to add though is that even if you deploy another package at the same time, LANDESK is designed not to run the same process twice which means that another task scheduled at the same time with the default settings will not be affected by the first task that changes your settings temporarily.

I hope I answered you questions

Have a good day and don't forget to mark this as answered if you are satisfied with it!
