LANDesk Targeted Multicast service falling over

    Apprentice

Recently we upgraded cpre server and alomost all agents from 8.7SP3 to 8.7SP5 and I've noticed on an increasing number of devices I've come across (Win 2k, XP Pro and most notably 2003 Server) that LANDesk Targeted Multicast service is falling over.  I've noticed it giving me this on a few servers I've been on since the upgrade

In this particular server I've set the service to restart automatically, typically it'll fall over 5 or 6 times when I login to the server then it will stay up until I log out then back in.

      Anyone seen this before?

            Hi:

I have encountered a very similar problem as you describe.  The field Technician reported that when he encountered this issue, he clicked "Close Message", the server then rebooted and the LAN (head-end) became unresponsive.  The two may not be related but is cause for concern.

I was going to post this bizarre issue but decided to perform a search instead, that is how I got to your thread.  I'm attaching the Event log picture to this  thread, hopefully someone can shed some light on the topic.

The last 4 pictures are the Event log (under Application).

The first file is the window that appeared on the Windows 2003 Server Desktop (our DHCP Server).

            Microsoft's recommendations is:

"To avoid this behavior, contact your program vendor to see if   an update is available that enables the program to work correctly with  DEP."

Don't be afraid now, everyone can jump in and help.

Assuming they diagnosed correctly and DEP was in fact the killer, this is why every download link from LANDesk includes this text at the top:

              Warning!

Prior to downloading LANDesk Service Packs, add [ http://*.landesk.com/ ]

to the trusted sites list in Internet Explorer to avoid "Unknown publisher errors" when installing the Service Pack prior to downloading the updates.

Or you could just unblock the installer before you install. After you install, it's streams.exe and good luck. You'll learn some exciting stuff about Alternate Data Streams though.

Hello Simon. Have you already resolved this issue ?

I have same troubles on each four v9.0 SP2 Agents of windows 2008 server(64bit) when the scheduled vulnerability scan is running on them.

I'm very confused because this trouble happens not only partially but also sporadic.

Does any one know how to avoid this issue ?
