    setup has stopped working

    Rookie

Trying to install Management Suite 2016 remote console.

      Windows 10 Surface pro 4

Downloaded fresh install from LanDesk, install works on other setups identical to this particular unit.

Double click the LANDESKsoftware2016 package, it extracts, get the LANDesk splash screen and instantly get 'Setup has stopped working'

I have removed any and all traces of landesk agent, previous remote console (9.6sp2), run CCleaner, cleared registry, reset surface, machine is 100% up to date on microsoft/windows/surface updates, with agent removed AV is out of the question, removed unit from domain as well

Cannot install to save my life.  Tried calling LD support and have been stuck on a que for 35 minutes trying to get support, couldnt find similar issue in community.  Any ideas?

          Hi Erick,

you could check the install logs in the following folders:

          C:\ProgramData\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\Install\10.0\Log

Hopefully there is something tracked already.

Are any errors in the eventlog of your device?

Maybe the setup fails at the prerequisite check... maybe .NET4.6. There are some issues with LDMS and .NET 4.6, if ist installed on your device, I would suggest to remove it and try the installation again. Here is a link regarding isses and how to remove :NET 4.6:

          Hope it helps.

          Kind regards

          Christian

            Hi Erik,

Something else to look at beyond the LDMS logs are the windows event logs.

The 'setup has stopped working' is the OS indicating a problem, instead of the setup file itself throwing an error message. That doesn't mean there wouldn't be errors in the LDMS logs, but it seems pretty plausible you'll find some other errors in the windows event logs.

From there, you could search those errors here in the community, or even online in general.

Definitely post what you find though to help us get a better idea of what you're seeing.

            Nick

I found one other user who had a similar error, and they had mentioned that they had some luck based on the registry keys listed in this discussion: Strong name verification system contains exclusion entries in the registry. Blocking access

It may be worth looking at the keys outlined in that conversation, and possibly trying some of the modifications they discuss.

Obviously if you are modifying the registry, just make sure to make a full backup first.

Any errors in Windows Event log that correspond to the run time?

I found another instance of the error message 'ERROR: Unable to determine the installed feature.' during an RC install on a Win 10 box. That user ended up installing 9.6 as a remote console, then upgraded it to 2016.

Windows logs were empty for errors at time of install.  Will attempt to install 9.6 and bring up from there to 10.  Will update when attempt is finished or craters.

I have seen .Net 4.6 do some unusual things when trying to install LDMS.  Sometimes it’s very difficult to uninstall or work around.  Here’s a doc which has been helpful with removing .Net 4.6. http://www.expta.com/2016/02/how-to-uninstall-net-framework-461.html I hope this helps.

I have the exact same issue with LDMS 2016 Console install on a clean build Windows 10 pro system.   I tried with the Agent not installed on system and then with installed, failed both times.  I installed the 9.6 console without issue then ran the install for 2016 console install without issue. I do believe there is a pre-check issue here.

Log of install WITHOUT the 9.6 console installed.

The cause of this issue is corrupted Data Analytics installer. The workaround is to install a 9.6 console, upgrade it to 9.6 SP2 and then install 2016 console. That should do the trick and bypass checking for installed features.

                              Hi,

                                        It sounds like a .Net 4.6 issue.  Here is a good doc on how to uninstall .Net 4.6. How to Uninstall .NET Framework 4.6.1 | The EXPTA {blog}

I have this problem as well. Tried to uninstall everything and start from 9.6 SP2 and then to 2016. Very frustrating.
