How do you remove components from a dashboard?

    Apprentice

I am building a dashboard and no longer want to see a component that I drag and dropped into a box....

All you can do is drag something new to that gadget.  If you want it blank, I was able to just use Image Components and put http://www.google.com and it shows blank or you could put a blank image in it.  Hope this helps..

          Thanks,

If you want to remove a component and not replace it, then you can change the layout to one with at least 1 less available component. The layout change will automatically remove the component in the lower-right corner. Be careful, once you change the layout, there is no undo, any components without a place in the new layout will be removed.

              Hi,

I'm looking for this answer too.

jfmascaro's answer isn't right. Components are always here by this way. They are just not visible.

Some one else have the way to do it please ?

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "Components are always here...", changing the layout will work to remove components, starting with the one in the lower right-hand corner.

                The following images illustrate this:

Layout 3-3 is a dashboard with a 3 component layout and all 3 components are populated

                Layout 3-3.jpg

Layout 2-2 is the same dashboard with the layout changed to a 2 component layout

                Layout 2-2.jpg

Layout 3-2 is the same dashboard switched back to a 3 component layout and the pie chart from Layout 3-3, the component in the lower right-hand corner, has been removed

                Layout 3-2.jpg

The Component Summary for the dashboard only shows 2 components:

                  Hello,

jfmascaro's answer is correct.  Until such time that we add a "delete" feature, that is the way we've answered this question for years.

Usually, I will ask if the person wants to put something else in its place, or if they no longer want anything there.  If they want something else, I suggest just dragging that new component onto the section and replacing the old component.  If they no longer want it and are going from, say, 5 sections to 4 sections, I suggest they move the unwanted component to the lower right corner and then change to the appropriate 4-section layout they want to use.

If they say they want to stay at the same number of sections (the same current layout), but want to get rid of that one component, then I suggest they do the above steps (move it to lower right and change to a layout with fewer sections) and then change back to the original layout.  The 1 (or more) sections deleted by this action will now have blank spaces.  Of course, you may have to rearrange the remaining components to position them where you want them if the lower right sections are not the ones you want to be blank.

I WAS going to point you to an enhancement request for this feature so that you could vote for it, but I couldn't find one.  It has been asked amount several times over the years, so I'm surprised no one actually submitted a suggestion for it.  Either that, or it is already there and I just couldn't find it.  So, feel free to submit it as an enhancement request (idea): Xtraction - ER.

                  Thanks,

                  Gregg

                      Hi,

Ok. I've reproduced your case and that's match right.

Therefore, here is a case where it doesn't match :

                      LDCommunity-128802-1.PNGLayout

Then same dashboard with the layout changed :

                      LDCommunity-128802-2.PNG Layout

Then same dashboard with the layout rechanged to the first one  :

                      LDCommunity-128802-3.PNG Layout

"Components", here, in red circles, are always here with Data Series insides

                      Cheers.

That, Cyril.DORCY, is what we call a bug.  I will get someone to reproduce this and log it so development can look into it.

                        Thanks,

I have reproduced this issue and reported my findings back to our development team with ID 324880. I will keep you updated with the status. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

                          Thanks,

                              Hi Cyril.DORCY,

Thank you for your patience while we looked into this with our development team. I have confirmed with them this is in fact, not a defect. This is working as designed. Please allow me to explain this a bit further. When you are in 'Edit' mode, you can alter the dashboard layout by increasing or decreasing the number of components. If you reduce the number of components, you will lose sight of any components that were removed when the layout change was made. If you then change the size back to the original or make it larger you recover the lost components. You do not lose any data. You may need to do a Refresh to see the lost data returned.

If you wish to remove unwanted components, you can do this by changing the layout size. For example, if you change the dashboard layout from 10 components to 8 components, you lose 2 components. To make this permanent you must save your dashboard. If you then want to make the dashboard 10 components, you must change the layout again. Since the previous dashboard layout change was saved, the two components that are added in this process will be blank.

The dashboard UI also allows you to move components around within the layout using the drag and drop method. With this in mind, you can increase the layout size and move components around so after a 2nd resize they are lost. Nothing is permanent in the components and the layout until it is saved. If you wish to replace one component with another you can drag a new component over the top and overwrite the existing one, then save the dashboard.

While this isn't a defect, please feel free to submit and enhancement request on this at the link below. This way we can look into the benefit of altering the process outlined above to "blank out" the component tiles upon template change.

                                Hi Channing,

There is definitely a bug: either the behavior Cyril.DORCY demonstrated, or the behavior jfmascaro demonstrated.  They are opposite behaviors to the same action, so whichever one is by design, the other is a bug.

I'm happy to join the conversation with development, if you like.
