    agent on citrix server


      I searched this forum with no luck

      i need this question answered

      i was told that server agent should not be installed on citix server because "somthing " will make the CPU run at 100%

      i forget were i got that from and what the "somthing" is

      can anyone answer this for me please?

          I believe you're thinking of softmon.exe.  It is part of our standard agent, so the agent itself is not designed to be installed on Citrix.

            You can install the agent but just make sure you disable the software monitorng service to avoid this problem.

              It's nothing to do with server vs client agent - both include SOFTMON by default. The problem is resolved in the method described my Mark Star.


              To add a bit of detail - this is what happens:

              For every user that connects, a new instance of SOFTMON is launched. This is only something seen on Citrix servers, and is down to the way that Citrix works.


              This means that for - say - 10 users connecting you will have 10 instances of SOFTMON running - since an instance of SOFTMON eats ca. 25 MB of memory, that'd be ca. 250 MB of memory gone. With 40 users, you'd be approaching 1 GB. So this is something that you should be mindful of, if you're installing the LANDesk agent on a Citrix server.


              Either configure SOFTMON in such a fashion that it doesn't monitor anything, or set the service to disabled.

                Here is a doc on how to remove the service http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-2553 in case you need to do it programmatically.


                "C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\softmon.exe" /remove


                Also if you feel that this is something your shop needs in the product, enter an ER for this feature to work under Citrix.
