# copy a file to the c:\Program File X86\XXXX\ directory Window 10

I am updating a file in the program file x86 directory.  the file is a map overlay file that shows updated routes.  I have to update this file every 6months.

In windows 7, I just copied this file to the program directory.  With window 10, I get access denied.

I have tried to use a batch file and get access denied when it tries to copy from the network drive.  I also get access denied when I try to copy it to a C;\temp drive and then to the program files x86 directory.

I have also tried to write a powershell script to do it.  I also get an access denied.

Is anyone doing this successfully in windows 10.

Hello Joey,

You might see some better results with PsExec. It is a TechNet utility that can run applications on machines that are local or remote. It runs the application using LOCAL SYSTEM so permissions should not be an issue.

You can try using PsExec to run command prompt or powershell then run the copy script from there.

Please let me know if that helps.

Thanks,
