    Computers not reporting inventory scan

    Apprentice

      Hi,

Some of our computers on Landesk  network are not reporting inventory scan. I tried running inventory scan manually and it was successful. Nonetheless, the "last update scan date" was not updated.

Could you let me know how to resolve the issue?

      Thanks

If the scan runs successfully then the core server has received it but not processed it.  Before anything else, edit the commandline of the inventory scanner and add /F and /SYNC to the commandline.  This will force a software scan and also force a full scan of the machine (not a delta scan).  Check if the record is there now.

If not, look in the LDMAIN share on your core server and then in the LDScan\Errorscan directory.  Can you see a file greater than 3 or 4k that has appeared at about the same time you ran your scan?  If so, open the files it might be and see if the file is the scan file for your machine.

If you can see a file (or even if you can't) then look at the eventlog of your core server.  If the server has a problem processing the scan file, then you should see an error for the Inventory Server in here.  See what the error is and what the description says.  If it talks about field data being truncated then take a look at the documents on this community that talk about extending field lengths.

If none of this fits and/or you see a different error, then post the error here.

            Hi Mark,

After running from the command line, how long will it take to report the inventory scan on the console?

If you look in the LDScan directory and it is empty of .SCN files then all scans have been processed.

The LDScan directory under the LDMAIN share on the core server.  in many cases it should take only a matter of seconds for a scan to be processed into the database.  If your system is particularly busy or has a problem, it may take longer due to scan files being queued in the LD|Scan directory on the Core Server.  If you watch that directory as the scan runs, when the client finishes the scan you should se the file get created in LDScan and shortly after disappear.
