I think you asked me already, but as you know, you don't use the LANDesk Management Gateway, so the service doesn't have anything to run and automatically shuts down again...

we have management suite 8.7 with all of the updates. are you saying that the
LANDesk(R) Management Gateway Service is not needed at all? my startup type for the service is set to 'automatic', but everytime we reboot our core server, that service never restarts. Also, we have RPC set to manual on our server.
That service is only used if you have a LANDesk Managment Gateway attached to your core server. On boot that that service checks for the Gateway and if it does not find one it shuts itself down.
What the others has said is exactly right. The service starts, finds nothing for it to do, and stops. Unless you have a Management Gateway Appliance in your environment this is expected behavior.
To answer the exact question, the log file is stored under \\<servername>\ldmain\brokerservice.log
