    Inventory Scan Scheduling

    Apprentice

      Hello,

I have created an Agent Configuration Windows with 1 Day frequency scanning (Every day at 18:00).

I have installed 5 days ago the Agent, but I have seen, on Core Server,  that the last scanning date is 5 days ago.

It seems that the scheduling doesn't start every day at 18:00.

How Can I verify it ?

Is it possible change the scheduling scanning Agent side ?

      Thank you.

      Andrea.

          Andrea,

I've changed the topic a little to be clearer and moved this to the Inventory section, since the problem is with inventory scanning, and less deployment of agents .

No content of your actual message has been altered.

          ------------------

Now - there's lots of reasons why inventory may not update.

Your Inventory Service may have stopped (you may want to check your Core's Application Event Log), Scan-files may have been rejected, etc. etc. etc.

Client-side, there's the LDISCN32.LOG you can use as an indication of scanning activity (Every time the scanner start, the log is updated with a few lines). That log lives in (default path) "C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\".

Then there's the LOCALSCH.LOG (in the same directory) which shows the local scheduler's activity.

That should help you somewhat along the way.

            Thanks Paul,

I have attached you the log file.

            You can see the error.

            Thanks for your support.

So, if you look at the local scheduler log, you'll see that each day has at least 1 reference to LDISCN32 being called - so the inventory scan is being started.

As I said, check that your service is running // run the shortcut manually (or add a "/V" switch for verbose) to scan, and see if you run into any errors clientside (like network-based "can't connect to the core" or whatnot) ... if there's no problem there, the scan file gets to the Core, and you need to look at the application event log on the Core (likely something's being rejected).

                Thanks Paul.

Is it possible change the Agent scheduling start date ?

I would like to start the scan scheduled for a test.

                Best Regards,

                  Sure you can change it.

Just edit the Local Scheduler settings for the inventory scan to be running between (for instance) 10 am and 11 am ... it creates an additional filter, and then re-deploy the agent / update on to a test PC ...

... or did I misunderstand what you were after?

                    Hi,

but in this mode I change the client configuration on Core Server ?

If yes, Should I recreate the EXE Agent file and reinstall the Agent ?

                    Thanks

OK - I don't understand your question (or rather - it doesn't make sense to me) - I think I must be missing something.

Can you please reformulate it (longer version is better than a 1/2 sentence one), to explain what exactly it is you're after?

                      Thanks.

                        Then,

                        1) I create the WIN_1_AGENT_CONFIGURATION with console on Core Server with scheduling at 4:00 pm

                        2) With mouse button right on WIN_1_AGENT_CONFIGURATION, I create the Agent EXE file

                        3) I put and I install this agent file on 100 server

Now, my problem is: how can I modify the scheduling to 8:00 pm ?

I have to repeat steps from 1 to 3 ?

                        Thanks.

Thank you for explaining - that helps a lot.

Your question is pretty easy to sort out actually (now that I know what you wanted). Here goes...

1 - Right-click your agent configuration ("WIN_1_AGENT_CONFIGURATION") and select properties. A new window will open.

                          ===

2.0  - Go to STANDARD LANDESK AGENT -> INVENTORY SCANNER

2.1 - Click on the "CHANGE SETTINGS"-button (right-side of the tree, it's in the lower 1/3 of the window). A new window will open.

2.2 - In the "TIME" section, configure the TIME RANGE to be in the range you want it to be.

                          For instance 19 - 21 (for between 19:00 - 21:00).

and set the other filters as you want.

(NOTE -- pay careful attention to the bottom "additional random delay" filter - that's a random delay ON TOP of all eles ... by default, we give up to 1 hour of random delay to stagger inventory scans). So make sure you've got it set to what you want.

2.3 - Click "SAVE" when done to save and close the "Schedule Inventory Scan" window.

3 - Click "SAVE" to save and close the agent-configuration window.

                          ===

4 - Right-click your agent configuration ("WIN_1_AGENT_CONFIGURATION") and select "Create self-contained client installation package" ... save it where you want it.

This is so that you have a newer version of your binary, if you want to do additional installations.

5 - For the systems you've actually installed already, you do NOT (!) need to install the new agent / binary (though you can if you want.

                          You can simply ...

6 - Right-click your agent configuration ("WIN_1_AGENT_CONFIGURATION") and select "SCHEDULE UPDATE TO AGENT SETTINGS".

7 - Drag your clients into the task and run it (like a normal task).

The "update"-function only works in some cases (when no new files need to be put down) - in this case it will work, since all that we changed (effectively) is a setting of the local scheduler.

Hope that this answers your question?

                            Very very clean !!!

                            Thank you very much Paul.

Instead for Unix Agent is different, or not ?

I suppose that I have to change the crontab manually, right ?

                            Best regards

You would need to change the CRON - correct.

                                  Hi Paul,

for update scheduling Date for windows server I have done how you wrote.

I have modified the Agent Configuration time, 10 minutes after the current time.

I have done Right-click my agent configuration and select "SCHEDULE UPDATE TO AGENT SETTINGS"

I have doen drug client and start the scheduling

I receive the 'Successful' result but the inventory doesn't start at time.

                                  Have you some ideas ?

                                  Thanks

                                  Andrea.

On a client where you performed the change, do the following ...

                                    1 - START -> RUN -> "cmd"

2 - Go to the LDCLIENT directory - by default this is "C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\".

3 - Run the following command:

                                    ""

                                    localsch /task >output.txt

                                    ""

This will write out the local scheduler tasks in human-readable format into a text-file called "output.txt" (be careful, you must stick to my EXACT syntax)

                                    4 - Run

                                    ""

                                    notepad output.txt

                                    ""

and have a look. If you have problems understanding what you see, attach it to the case - but what you're looking for are command-lines with LDISCN32 - and you want to look at the filters... (as well as the command-line).

                                    Paul Hoffmann
