Microsoft System Center Third Party Patching

    jonbays Apprentice

How many people out there are using SCCM to patch anything other than just windows OS?

How are you finding SCUP packaging of third party applications and keeping up with the ever increasing number of Adobe and Flash updates that keep on coming as more and more vulnerabilities are found?

Why should i use SCCM when HEAT have a big solution for third Party Patchmanagement?

I allways love too use the same Management Tool for Installing, Managing and Patching. Because so i know what happend when.

            Stefan,

Others might ask "why should I use HEAT DSM for patch management if I got SCCM already?"

And PatchLink for System Center is the product that might be an interesting addon for them to integrate 3rd party patching in SCCM.

Unless they are happy SCUP users...

So I think this product is not intended for HEAT DSM users.

            Cheers

              Klaus

Yes, but not in the HEAT Software Forum. ;-)

                Hi Klaus,

Exactly if you're a well trained experienced SCCM user then that is fine to patch manage and install Microsoft software but are you really going to use SCUP at all and are you really going to be able to afford the time it takes to use SCUP to package up all the more critical third party application patches?

Do happy SCUP users actually keep up with all the critical third party application patches that come out every month?

                  Stefan,

HEAT is a Microsoft Gold Application Development partner.

HEAT PatchLink for Microsoft System Center provides two software options; DataCenter an integrated platform extension that provides patch management support for Linux/UNIX server and Mac OS desktop platforms & DeskTop an enterprise-class 3rd party application patching plug-in that uses patent-pending Patch-Smart™ technology to automatically synchronize 3rd party application updates to System Center.

These products were developed for our customers who choose to use Microsoft SCCM for endpoint management rather than our HEAT Desktop Server Management with Advanced Patch Management module or HEAT Endpoint Management & Security Suite or HEAT LANrev so we have a very complete range of software to cover all customer verticals and requirements.

                    • Thanks. I didn't realize that Patch Link also works with SCCM.

It's always the same question: "Money for Time". If i have enough time a can use manually or half automatic Systems. If not, i must spend the Money to buy a full automatic System like Patch Link.

I wonder if there are happy SCUP users at all

I find it very valuable to automate routine tasks as much as possible.

Having to hunt down all these third party patches all the time and creating catalogs and importing them etc. etc. is definitely something I do not want to do.

But I'm not a SCCM / SCUP admin so maybe some people actually using SCCM would comment on this.

Rarely will you find a "happy" SCUP user. Far too manual and obviously lacking support from the ISV community-at-large. The fantastic thing about HPLDT 2.2 is that it seamlessly integrates our metadata into your SCCM admin console so that all the 3rd party updates can be treated in the exact same manner as your monthly MSFT updates, but without any additional infrastructure, consoles or client agents - unlike some competitive solutions in the market.

And, when I say "same manner", I mean just that! NOTHING CHANGES FOR YOU! You can continue to use the same collections (with associated maintenance windows that we'll honour), the same (or new) ADRs, Baselines, Reporting, etc. Nothing changes for you except for the ability to now also patch all the critical 3rd party apps in your environment as well.

I'm happy to give anyone a demo of our product in action so you can see firsthand how simple we make this for you all. Just give me a shout! :-)
