you can hide and show certain articles by setting appropriate object level permissions.
I am using my own Knowledge collections to limit access to certain articles. But you can also create a business object and use it as a junction table.
- a ServiceDesk analyst should only be able to create and view Issue&Resolution knowledge articles.

Logged in as the SDA and go to knowledge but still able to see the IssueResolution types. Its only when you double click the article that it throws an error.
Were these articles written by you, by chance?

I believe if you are the article owner/author, then you are going to see it no matter the permissions. Did you test your scenario with a user in SDA role that has never created an article?
Its a good point and I will look into logging in as another user to check
