It sounds like you may have a different issue but...
With Netinstall 5.7, we find that we have to set the SATA drives to "native" mode in the bios to have any chance of OSD working. Some of our newer Dell laptops don't have this option - we are screwed as far as OSD is concerned on those.
on Dell notebooks, there is the option to set SATA from "AHCI" to "ATA". To do this you first must set the "flash cache" to disabled. After that, the installation of XP should run without problems.
Windows XP is here the problem, which doesn't support the AHCI interface.
This applys to all Notebooks and Desktops from Dell and Fujitsu that are preinstalled with Vista. Desktops have only one options in the Bios, on notebooks as remote said, you need to disable the Flash Cache Module first before you can set AHCI to SATA.
