MSI installations broken since 2016.3 patch

    Rookie

      Hi Team,

We have just very recently upgraded to 2016.3 and had some issues with agent deployments. We have nearly solved this, and tied it down to a GPO on one of our 3 domains causing the failure with the executable. However, we are having an issue where the MSI not deploying at all and it seems as though it is trying to access an invalid local machine link. It hits 2 log files, advancedagent.log and fwregister.log

Interestingly in the fwregister.log you get this:

      Thu, 24 Aug 2017 11:30:38 FWRegister: "LANDESK Advance Agent" "C:\Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\AdvanceAgent\\AdvanceAgent.exe"  install=1  pid=3444

Thu, 24 Aug 2017 11:30:38 hSCM is 00000000 and hService is 00000000 (last error 6)

Thu, 24 Aug 2017 11:30:38 SharedAccess service does not exist; trying MpsSvc in case we are running XP instead of Vista

Thu, 24 Aug 2017 11:30:38 hSCM is 00000000 and hService is 00000000 (last error 6)

Thu, 24 Aug 2017 11:30:38 service does NOT exist

Thu, 24 Aug 2017 11:30:43 service not running, not authorizing app

If you look at line 1: its trying to hit AdvancedAgent\\AdvancedAgent.exe (maybe the double slash is causing this error? unless it is a logging error)

      In AdvanceAgent.log, you receive this:

      Thu, 24 Aug 2017 11:30:43 Downloader/Multicast using config file located here: C:\ProgramData\LANDesk\TMCDownload\downloadermulticastconf.xml

Thu, 24 Aug 2017 11:30:54 LddwnldBase:: GetConfiguration creating default configuration file.

I have tried to Rebuild All since the upgrade and checking the versions, they are the new version. (apart from the macs, where I have no idea where these are )

I have looked at the (setup.ini) configuration, and the only reference to ""\\"" I can find is under Watcher Post Copy in which it is noted that it is included there due to a bug.

This is the screenshot of a working fwregister we recieve when we execute the .exe manually.

Another quick question to end, we are now on client version 10.1.0.72, is that 2016.3 SU0? we are currently downloading SU3 from Patch Manager and looking into upgrade, just wanted to make sure that we did not have it already.

      Thank you for your time.

I think i've just been having a huge brain fart over the longest time, I was trying to run the MSI manually and just remembered that it does not work like that due to certain services not being able to install even run as admin.

So i went and made a test GPO and it has deployed successfully using it. We are now running 2016U3 and rearing to go for new upgrades
