    OnPrem vs Cloud

    AnthonyDowns Specialist

Has anyone made the move from on premise to cloud? If so, do you feel the move was worth it?

We have been considering moving to the cloud but if I understand correctly it means we would no longer have access to the servers. If that's the case, would we be required to submit tickets to Ivanti for doing things like restores to STG/UAT or pushing new packages?

We are also using PowerBI to do most of the reporting and I was unsure if that sort of access is still available with cloud.

      Thanks

I cant offer an opinion on the first question as a consultant however the others I can, er well the key considerations are no more infrastructure to manage and no more upgrades to worry about.

You are correct zero access to servers or databases (however you can request a copy of your db at anytime).  Refreshes of Staging and UAT you can request through your Ivanti CRM (I think they are bringing back the request portal to provide it automated again as well).  Pushing new packages you can either request from SaaS Ops your CRM, the portal once it is back or just export the package and import yourself (backup timings willl vary on this option but if you have tested properly on UAT shouldn't be an issue).  You can even request metadata unlock for x amount of time on production but I don't recommend it.

We are also using PowerBI to do most of the reporting and I was unsure if that sort of access is still available with cloud.

You will require a reporting tenant to connect any 3rd part tool to a database.  The reporting tenant is a secondary database mirroring your primary, this way you cannot take down their cluster with a massive query.

You will need to discuss this with your account manager.

Other things to consider, integrations become harder if you do not have a VPN.  Ivanti do provide an SFTP site for regular file transfers and the AD connector tool (available in the appstore) has a directory monitor so automated pushing and importing of flat files is possible.

all email and AD connectors have to either be SSL/TLS, single sign on via ADFS ideally.  You can get a VPN direct to your site but again something to talk to your account manager about.

I hope this helps, if you need more shout.

Thanks Alasdair, that's definitely some additional things we need to consider.
