    Goldmine Web License Question

    neocrm Apprentice

      Hi,

The Goldmine Web licenses that come with GMPE purchase, can they use at the same time as the user licenses? i.e. Can one access Goldmine Web while logged into Goldmine in the office? Or if they are on Goldmine Web, can they still log into to Goldmine?

      Thanks

As I understand it there are no licenses for GoldMine Web.  When someone logs in via the Web they are actually using a GMPE License..

Of course I could be wrong, and if so others will let you know.

            You are right DJ.

So a user can not be logged into both PE and Web at the same time with the same user login.

You will get a License error message when trying to log in to one while already logged into the other.

And consequently you must log out of one before you log in to the other.

I make this specific point because it is all to easy to just close the browser window instead of actually logging out of Web.

Thanks DJ and Bob, another problem is people forget to close PE when they leave the office and won't be able to connect to web afterwards.

In Tools > User Settings > Properties you can set a logout 'When idle for:'  set it for maybe 60 minutes

and a Forced logout time at night - maybe 6pm unless people work late.  This will also provide better backups by not having open files.

                  All,

I don't mean to step on toes or suggest another response or answer is incorrect.  However, the response provided so far has NOT been my experience (that you cannot be logged into both at the same time).  Rather, a single GM user ID CAN be logged into BOTH GM PE and GM Web at the same time. Yes, they will take up TWO of the GM licenses, out of the pool of licenses, but they definitely can be logged into each at the same time.

The one exception is if a GM ID has an UNDOCKED license (for syncing) associated with it. In that case, then THAT GM ID can only be logged into GM PE (the main GM PE, not their undocked GM PE) OR GM Web, one at a time, but not both at the same time.  (Even still, such an "undocked" GM user ID CAN be logged into BOTH the local/undocked copy of GM PE AND the GM Web.)

                  Hope this feedback helps.

Interesting John, that has not been my experience at all.

Hopefully a GoldMine tech will chime in here and clear this up.

And as they say 'the proof is in the pudding' so taste it -I mean test it to see what results you get.

Would also like to hear from others on this.

And mostly like to understand what is different about my experience.

                      John,

I am happy to report you are correct.

I was able to gain access to a client system where I could log in to both PE and Web at the same time using the same login credentials.

So the problem I have is on my system.

Perhaps a corrupt flags file our user file.

I will investigate further and give an update on this.

                      Thanks for the correction.

My experience has also been that I have had no issues staying logged in to PE while using Web.

...and you shouldn't have as long a you have enough licenses, just as in house one can log in multiple times.  2 Logins uses 2 Licenses at least that is how I remember it.

are you undocked?  I have encountered the same behavior as you have -- I can only login to one or the other.  I am, however, an undocked user, so the behavior makes sense and is consistent with other license behavior surrounding undocked users.

Yes! Thanks Doug, I am undocked and that is what I am experiencing also.

Then I think it's 'as designed' and not really a problem.  Think about it this way:  If you are an undocked user and sitting at your laptop, using your undocked installation, as it is, you can then ALSO login to the network copy of GoldMine with the same username.  Now, if you were also allowed to login to GM Web with that same username, you could be using that one license slot three times, in theory.

The madness has to stop somewhere...

You should be able to use both at the same time. This is also the case for 2016.1 with the added features of GM Web. You can be logged into both simultaneously with no problems (apart from a timeout on Web if left untouched for an amount of time).
