I have a blank data base.

    tina Rookie

Most of the webinars have fields already set up. I'm as starting from scratch is there a webinar for this? I set up an Offer tab (as described by the video as a Holiday) I don't think I did it right and want to delete it. How do I delete a tab?

          Tina,

What video?  It helps when referring to a video to include a link to such so that we know which video you are referring to.

There are two distinct types of custom tabs you can create in GoldMine.  One is based on the Fields tab (a custom screen with custom fields) and one is based on the Details tab (custom details).

To remove a custom tab based on the Fields tab:

          • Via the GM Menus, go to Tools | Configure | Custom Screens.

          • Highlight the one in question and click the Properties button.

          • Remove all text from the "Tab Name" field and click OK.

To remove a custom tab based on the Details tab:

          • Open one of the details in question (on a record that already has one on it).

          • Click the Setup tab.

          • Remove all text from the "Tab Name" field and click OK.

Hope this feedback helps. Please let me know if I need to clarify anything.

All the videos have information already loaded into the fields. What I need help on is entering the basic info into the fields. Entering F2 info into each one and making sure it’s the right place to put that information.  It might be better in another dropdown list.

              Tina,

Did my previous reply answer your original question?  Your original posting essentially boiled down to "How do I delete a tab?"

Now, this follow-up comment says "What I need help on is entering the basic info into the fields.".

These are clearly two different things.

Also, this most recent feedback appears to be very generic in nature and makes me think you might benefit more from some professional GoldMine consultation (from a certified partner) rather than the combination of watching videos and posting questions here about those videos.  I suspect an hour or two of such consultation could make a world of difference.

Just my simple observation. Not trying to discourage using this community to post questions, but such a very general plea for help is usually better addressed by direct interaction with a GoldMine partner.

              Hope this feedback helps.

Not really, but I went to the advanced section of the videos and am working my way through them learning as I go. I found some answers there.

                  Well then, best of luck.

Do know that there are a couple of basic things that you cannot do with a completely BLANK database.  You have to have at least ONE (1) record in it, in order to do it.  For example, my instructions for deleting a custom DETAILS tab.  Deleting a custom FIELDS tab, can be done w/o any record.  Deleting a custom DETAILS tab requires that there is at least one record with that given detail in order for you to edit the settings and delete the tab.

I'd suggest putting at least one (simple test/bogus) record into the DB, just to simplify the effort you are putting forth.  Trying to do much of anything in GoldMine with 0 records can be a crazy experience, at best.

                  Hope this feedback helps.

Yes, I have about 40 plus entries. I’m holding off a bit until I learn more about tabs, adding a tele script page and other things. I’ve remembered how to add fields, and change their properties. Some tabs on Contact 2 area are confusing on how they work or how to use them. I’ll keep plugging along

By blank I meant there is not any preset data. (F2) I have to enter everything. I already mess up one field and had to change it in all 40 contacts.  I’d like to have had something to work with but I’ll make it

OH, I see.  I didn't interpret "blank database" to simply mean you had no validated lookup values setup.  I thought you meant you had 0 records entered. I know you referred to F2 lookups in your reply, but that reality still eluded me.

That facet is really pretty basic and easy to manage.  For any given field, press F2 or click the little black arrow to the far right to bring up the validated lookup values.  From here, you can use the New, Edit and Delete buttons to add/change/delete lookup values for that specific field.

You can also press the SETUP button to then adjust the behavior and other settings related to THAT specific field.

The online help should be fairly thorough in this regard, explaining what all these check boxes truly are for.  Here is the TITLE field as an example:

                      Again, best of luck.
