You do not want to disable the inventory scanner as this can cause RC not to work depending on the security mechanism(especially Integrated Security) you are using to assign rights. If you want to disable inventory scans, which i do not suggest, you should insure that your RC security is at least set to Local Template. It is best to work with LD support to figure out what the issue is so as to help yourself and possibly others in the same situation.
What version of LDMS are you using? I wouldl review the log files for the systems in question to see if you see anything suspicious. http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-5130
You can also rebuild the LDAPPL files from your core and see if that has anything to do with the crashes. You could also rebuild and reinstall the agents on the these systems to see if that helps.
it would be helpful to know which LANDesk version you use, because they changed a bit in the Local Scheduler configuration...
On client you can stop the inventory service and the Landesk scheduler service or you can delete the Local Scheduler tasks...
