Searching multiple fields to locate one CI in dropdown list

Here's what we would like to do.

We have CIs - with both Names and Common Names

      Examples

      • Name = Microsoft Excel
      • Common Name = Excel
      • Name = CH-APP-EXT-P01
      • Common Name = Server

While in Incident, we want to capture 2 separate fields of data:  Reported CI and Actual CI.  In those fields...

      • I would like to type Excel and have it find Microsoft Excel or type Microsoft and have all Microsoft apps appear to select from.
      • I would also like to type Server in the Reported CI field and then be able to type the Actual CI (CH-APP-EXT-P01) in that field.

Is there anyway to search either the Name or Common Name to find results?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Hello there -- Internally we have been discussing this and trying to be creative.  We've come up with two options, neither of which we know how to do:

          1.  If Field was searchable rather than type ahead, we would get the results we want; or

          2.  If we could take the information in both fields and rather than combining to make one long field, create separate picklist entries for them, we would get the results we want.

          Any ideas???
