A simple version of doing such would involved a boolean field on the Employee Record. With this set up you'd need to pull in it's value any time the Owner field is set on an object record. You could then have a triggered rule on the object that fires when that field is set to true and configure a notification to go out to the record's Customer.
You might be able to further the thought process with more complexity by adding an object calendar as well.
