Difference between all reboot settings in Agent configuration

    ravindram Rookie

I see 3 different reboot settings to configure. Just wanted some clarity on all 3.

      1. Under standard ivanti agent there are "Agent install reboot settings" - This makes sense, just asking when can the client reboot after installing the agent

      2. Under Standard Ivanti Agent there is also "Reboot settings" for distribution and patch reboot settings - Is this referring to when patches (windows updates) can be installed and when the client can reboot? (maintenance window?)

      3. Under distribution and patch--->distribution and patch settings--->maintenance window. How is this different from reboot setting 2?

I believe the distribution and patch reboot settings refer to whether to force a reboot after patches are installed, and the maintenance window allows you to control when agents run certain tasks: i.e. only during the window - if you set one. So the window is about when to run distribution/patch tasks, where the reboot settings let you control when or if the agent forces the endpoint to reboot after running those tasks.

You are correct on item 1. The reboot setting in item 2 controls the reboot for scheduled tasks that do not have a different reboot setting selected on the Agent Settings page. This only controls the reboot and has nothing to do with when packages or patches will be installed on the client. Item 3, the Distribution and Patch setting Maintenance window controls when patches or packages can be installed on the computer and has nothing to do with reboot options.

Thanks for the replies so far. I've been doing some more testing. So if I'm understanding correctly, #2 is kind of the "master" reboot policy? So lets say I have #2 set to only reboot between 12AM-4AM but setting #3 to be between 8PM-5AM. This would ultimately download and install patches/software between 8PM-5AM, but only reboot at 12AM-4AM if needed?

The reason I'm confused is because when looking at the description, the maintenance window under "distribution and patch settings" (#3) includes reboot in the description.

The Maintenance window in the Distribution and Patch setting has nothing to do with the reboot. The settings you mentioned will function as you described. The computer will only reboot between 12 AM and 4 AM. The patches or packages will only install between 8 PM and 5 AM.

Thanks. Yeah, that's what it was behaving like as well. Not sure why they included reboot in the description for maintenance window under distribution and patch setting. Thanks for all the help!
