Has no one managed to do this yet?
i havn't been able to figure this one out either. the instructions don't seem clear on how to add specific files/folders in the .xml file.
This feature is coming out in a patch very soon. The patch will allow you to choose folders from the UI and include them along with all the user profile stuff. If the patch passes testing it could be out within the next week. If not, it will likely be two to three weeks.
I'll try and keep this string updated on the status, but if you don't hear from me about it let me know and I'll get a status.
Thanks for the update Mach6, that will help out a lot.
I was able to test this patch and it appears to be working as expected. It should be out for download as soon as tomorrow and no later than the end of the week (unless something unexpected happens).
As before, I'll keep this discussion up to date with the status. Hopefully my next update will contain a link to download the patch.
This is awesome news, I'm looking forward to the patch and start testing. Thanks for the update.
do you know when the patch will be available for us?
Here is a link to the patch:
At this point there is still no document detailing how to use it, but you can download it, apply it, and you should see the ability to add folders that you would like to capture.
Please let me know the results.
I loaded the patch on my dev server and can confirm that it does add the files/folder, include/exclude policies now. I'll test out functionality at a later time. This is going to help out a lot. Thanks,
Thanks very much for the patch. It looks like its going to be great. one question though,
Is LD %Personal Directory% point to the same folders as %userprofile%? i.e. is it C:\Documents and Settings\username\ ?
I have a few questions:
- Is it possible to tell Profile Migration to not gather *.ost (Outlook Offline Cache) Files?
- Where can I tell Profile Migration not to gather MyDocuments completely?
- Is it intended, that the config.xml-File isn't updated on the client if the file already exists (at least this is something I experienced; I fixed that by editing the script a bit)
- Although I excluded some Users, they still appear in the Profile Backup.
I'm working through this now and having the same difficulties. Do we know what system variables this will accept? The %personaldirectory% goes to their My Documents and but I need something that goes one step up so specific settings from APP Data and other folders can be imported.
I've tried the various windows system variables and it seems to ignore them, when I read through the sma.log on the PC I see something like
C:\documents and settings\\application data\ when I entered in as the folder to capture c:\documents and settings\%username%\Application data
The only way I've found to make it work is enter in the users ID explicitly, this does work fine and I can use this method if need be but it will be more front end work as we will need to create a new OSD script for each user.
