    Software Tasks Stuck on Starting in Software Deployment Portal

      I am having intermittent problems with deployment tasks getting stuck on "starting" in the software deployment portal. The same task seems to work fine on 99 out of 100 but on some clients status will say starting and will never finish. Running other tasks on the same machine seem to work fine too. Rebooting the pc results in the task still saying starting but no progress.

       

      2 questions:

       

      First is there a way to stop a stuck task in the software deployment portal?

       

      What would cause this?

          If LDMS9, what are the last few lines in the "sdclient_task###.log" from the "C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\Data" folder of the client for one of the "stuck" tasks? Also, if the Scheduled Task is consequently cancelled (right click on the Task), does this clear the status on the Portal?

            I am using LD8.8. I have checked for the log and it has not been created. I also tried to right click and cancel the task in the portal but it does not give me the option. It is as if the task has not started yet.

             

            After multiple reboots the task still says starting. How can I kill it?

              You rebooted the client, correct?

               

              That will not always clear these issues, restart the LANDesk Scheduler service on the core, that should do it.

                This issue was caused by the policy.client.invoker running at 50% on the affected machines. Once the fix for this was applied the stuck tasks began to run and completed successfully.

                  I am also having intermittent problems with tasks from the Software Deployment portal.

                   

                  All of these tasks work fine as normal push/policy-supported push, but when I make portal tasks, some of them fail on one machine and work on another. And the log says I'm cancelling the download, but I'm sitting watching the portal window (not doing anything) when it just stops.

                   

                  Any ideas/help appreciated.
